I went to get my oil changed and tires rotated the other day. The guy checked my tires and said b/c of some of the treds being different colors than the others, I needed to get them ______ ? I can't remember what he told me. I'm not sure if it was balanced or something else? But whatever it is, I need to get it done before a road trip this Saturday. Help!

I don't know about treads on tires turning different colors but you might have uneven wear on your tires. It is always a good thing to have your alignment checked every six months (or before making big trips) and your tires balanced and rotated with every oil change. This will insure your tires last longer.

By the treads being different colors, do you mean the wear indicators? If the tires are worn below the legal 3/32" then it is time to get the tires replaced. You would also want to get the front end aligned, and the new tires balanced. good luck and have a good trip.

Alignment...it's done when the tires have uneven wear on one side or the other...if you get that done also get the tires rebalanced or replaced.
