I'm having trouble with inconsistency in my backhand and forehand. I'm pretty sure it's b/c of my lower body. Does anyone have any tips on pre-shot footwork/preparation? Thanks!

There are many ways for you to improve your footwork, tennis footwork drills are supplied by many tennis websites and tennis magazine.

You can also try going to your courts having a practice partner throw/lightly hit balls to your side of the court where you will have to catch them with your hands.

Do wind sprints on the court:

1. Without your racket.

2. With your racket, arms flailing freely.

3. With your racket, focusing on the head facing the net.

Do them with your nose:

A. Facing the net.

B. Facing where you're going.

Some combination of all these, before your foe is there or a ball is in play will help you greatly.

Make sure your shoes are in good shape and tied right. Too loose - you won't be as sure of your steps. Too tight - you won't want to do as much running.

while youre playing you can do a few things: first make sure you do a split step everytime the opponent is about to hit the ball. this makes sure your feet are balanced and can run in any direction. now when the opponent hits the ball, see where its going, then run to the ball, DO NOT WAIT for the ball to come to you. run to the ball with big steps, then as you get closer, take 3 little stutter steps, these will help you adjust to the ball. the small steps help a lot. and of course make sure your shoulder is turned when you hit your strokes and everything. good luck
