a pond. what kind of plants like water, but not in a water garden?
it's in the shade (lots of trees).

i typed in water loving plants (and other things) and all i come up with are waterlillies. there's not that much water.

all the neighbors (11 of them) have water in their backyards, too. but thank you; i didn't think about hitting someone's water pipe.
we had to fill in the yard some with one neighbors' extra dirt (he had to take some away anyway)

Does your neighbor have water?, I hope you didnt hit his water pipe. If it used to be a pond, I hope they have put some solid fill underneath, so you dont find yourself swimming in that pond one day.

Call a few plant nurseries and ask. Also try some of the search engines; Yahoo; Google; alta vista etc.
Just type in Water gardens or plants loving water.

Your area may just have a high water table. Florida has this. I could dig 12" and hit water. Didn't see houses with basements because of this.
