Because a need that they have is going unmet in their marriage. For some, this need may be as simple as someone to talk to who actually listens to them and hears and cares about what they have to say. How many marriages out there are void of communications? For others, it might be a momentary escape from an abusive spouse. We've never heard of that happening, have we? Someone else might have a spouse that lost all interest in intimacy and that is something that they need in order to maintain sanity. It varies as widely, but it invariably points back to needs going unmet.

Why? Because having another person show some interest in you...both physically and otherwise is a boost to any persons ego..male or female. The trick is being able to feel flattered without taking anything a step further.
Unfortunately though this isn't always the case and people become more swept up in their emotions than thinking of the collateral damage an affair would cause.
People can say boredom all they want. usually your sex life is pretty good to begin with in manay cases. Its just that they act on their feelings and desires rather than rational thinking.

To all the angry women, there are two sides to every story. My now ex-wife treated me really badly and sent me into depression. I had an affair and I totally regretted doing it as it made the relationship worse, the divorce harder and hurt more people than just myself. I understand why people do it but would always advise them to work at any relationship problems, or to end a marriage if it is really irrepairable. The affair is just a way of distracting yourself away from facing up to your real probkems.

Some are selfish, Some have fallen out of love and are too scared to get a divorce, Some do it for spite, when they are having troubles witht heir spouse, Some do it because they are attracted to some one and do not have the will power to ignore the urges....ect. Everyone is different and have their own reasons. It's usually for the same reason's that GF and BF cheat, except that it's worse because they are binded by vows.

Because people are selfish in nature. If people stopped to think what was best for their spouse - and not them affairs would be a thing of the past. No one cheats on their wife/husband to benefit their spouse - they cheat to benefit themselves.

I've read a lot of the answers..basicaly saying "because they can"...the reality is that many do not want to cheat, they love their spouses and their families...but there is a major thing missing fromthe relationship...intimacy & sex. The affair is a means to fulfill the sexual desires that the spouse does not provide, not to replace the spouse...

it's not right and some people are just selfish idiots but i like to give people the benefit of the doubt so perhaps they rushed into marriage before they were ready. or maybe they find someone that they are totally at ease with and rather than just be happy with a new friend and want to take it further.
it's easy for me to judge because i'd be so appreciative of having finally met someone who wanted to be with me i'd never jeopardise it for anything.

Because a bored mind can be the devil's playground and the grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence.
