Both vinyls and CD have last forever if you just set them on the shelf and don't mess with them. The real difference is in playing them. You can play a CD pretty much infinite times and it will be just fine forever. A vinyl, however, may be worn down from the hard stylus over time.

With care, I would assume they both have an indefinite shelf life. Now a Vinyl may, in time, be worn from the needle and being played often. But, just siting on a shelf they would last forever.
