this depends on how much blood he is actually losing..

is the water in the tiolet bright red every time? if so-it's best that he have a checkup done just to make sure nothing serious is occuring.

he probably had hemmoriods (or piles)which can cause bleeding, pain upon having a bowel movement, and itching in some cases. these are fairly common and you can pick up medication for it (preparation H is a good brand) at any local drugstore.

have him try the hemmorhoid treatment for the next 48 hours along with taking a stool softener (buy at drugstore as well) to see if it helps. if not-take him to the dr for a checkup.

he should also increase his fiber intake and make sure he's drinking lots of water. the fiber will help prevent constipation.

high fiber foods are

-prunes or prune juice
-whole grain breads,bagels,rolls,etc
-lima bean
-lettuce
-broccoli
-black eyed peas
-nuts and seeds
-apricots
-apples w/skin
-strawberries

hemorrhoids
ulcerative colitis
Crohn's disease

He needs to see the doctor ASAP. Bleeding like this is not normal. Is he having a lot of diarrhea or constipation? If constipation, then more likely to be hemorrhoids. If he has been losing weight, then possibly one of the other two. Either way, the best person to determine the cause is his doctor.

Good luck!

If this persists for more than a few days, you MUST get him to a doctor. Ulcerative colitis is a very serious disease that usually strikes young adults. Rectal bleeding (enough to turn th water pink) is usually the first sign. Prompt treatment is an absolute necessity!

Possibly Hemorrhoids but could be a sign of a much larger problem. Check for 'roids and if he doesnt have them, go get him checked out.

P.S. If you think the "Question" was gross, your gonna love checking him out...lol

Its worth a trip to the md. Could be an ulcer or something worse. I'd go have a colon exam. It don't hurt and it will in the long run be worth it.

He could have hemorrhoids (piles), but it is best to have it checked out by a doctor.

Passing blood should always be checked out by a doctor.

Try and have him go to the doctor as soon as possible.

Bleeding from the rectum can be caused by hemhroids, but ANY bleeding from the rectum needs medical attention! Seriously, he needs to make an appointment with his doctor.
