Oh, Moon, I live in the States, as you know, and there are so many here!

The Badlands, in South Dakota; Cuyahoga Valley National Park, in Beautiful Ohio :-))The Grand Canyon, in Arizona; the sublime Redwoods, in California; Denali National Park, in Alaska (how I'd love to go there!), Yellowstone National Park, in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming; the Blue Ridge Mountains, in Virginia and North Carolina; Grand Teton National Park, in Wyoming (I've never been there); the Great Smoky Mountains, in Tennessee and North Carolina; the Rocky Mountains; the red-rock desert outside of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Big Sur in California (I've never been there); the lovely prairies and rolling grasslands in the middle States, just to name a few.

The USA is so huge, and so lovely!

Please tell us about some in Brazil! :-))

I'm from Canada and because our country is so vast with so few people, we have a great deal of beautiful natural reserves but if I had to pick one it would be Haida Gwaii (The Queen Charlotte Islands) and specifically Gwaii Haanas (South Moresby National Park Reserve).

The Islands of Haida Gwaii are 200km off the coast of BC in one of the most dangerous bodies of water in the world. The park of Gwaii Haanas is so isolated that there are no roads and the only way to get there is by boat or seaplane.

I travelled there by kayak and it was an absolutely amazing experience: dolphins arcing along beside me, eagles drooping over the sea waiting for a fish, raccoons down by the waters edge washing their food and giant trees (and I mean giant!) towering overhead and jagged mountains rising out of the water.

And thats just the tip of the preverbial iceburg. There's so much wildlife and unique species there in that temperate rain forest that its a nature lover's dream.

Great question, initiating a lot of passionate response. I live in what we fondly refer to as the No Mexico Zone. It is a little strip of Texas sandwiched in between The Country of Mexico and the State of New Mexico. We have nothing against either Mexico and it is not meant to be a derogatory statement against either Mexico. Sometimes we feel less than wanted however, and it's fun to have something clever to say about that.

I love the small things, like a patch of yellow flowers that grow randomly every few years. Two years ago, a portion of the high desert suddenly went crazy with Poppies. I had never seen so many poppies other than in pictures, and who knew that they could grow here? (Obviously the locals did, but I had only been here about Ten years by then)

Going up towards Carlsbad (In New Mexico) we pass through Guadalupe State Park. The Mountains look absolutely Primitive and I feel like we have stepped backward in time somehow. Whenever it rains here (not often, I assure you) the Sage blooms with some of the most delicate aromatic flowers you can possibly imagine. The high desert itself, which looked like nothing but scrub when we first got here, takes on a beauty all of it's own when we finally learned how to see it, and the skies! The skies paint themselves in pastels just before dark as if to mirror the subtle beauty beneath them. We have National Parks and Wetlands, Preserves and Reserves, but it's these spontaneous fits of beauty that most amaze and delight me in my advanced middle age.
