In theory, what's to stop you? Things grow, right?

unfortunately not.... bananas have no seeds to make it grow any further in the ground. and because a banana is a tree you need to plant a tree bulb that will spur roots into the ground. also remember that the climate for a banana tree must be moist otherwise you might have trouble with the growth of the tree.

Pepper F made an interesting point.

The banana is not a tree but a high herb that can attain up to 15 metres of height. It is a perennial plant that replaces itself. Bananas do not grow from a seed but from a bulb or rizhome.

No, not in most places at least. Bananas, I understand, can be touchy and prone to diseases. I read a fascinating article about them in the Smithsonian Magazine some months ago.

well, if the seeds in it havent been radiated or otherwise sterilized it should be possible. I dont ever remember seeing sprouts in a banana, but then again ive never looked. I guess it isnt the optimal way to do it, but if you want to try, go for it.

When I lived in Tenn, a neighbor came over with a box, sat down and talked for a little bit. After a while I had to know what was in the box, he says, oh yeah what kind of snake is this? Well after looking in the box and seeing a cotton mouth, he asks me, "do you think if I put him in the freezer for the winter he'll come back to life in the spring?" I of course told him to try it and let me know if it works.. the next day after his hospital trip hen asked if I was joking...LOL
