While I'm at it I may as well ask this one, too. I think this town name was chosen especially for it's vagueness. There are 48 Salems in the USA. Does this Salem resemble the one in your homestate? The Salem near me is more like Harmony on Passions...

There was a time that they could drive to Chicago but now need to fly - must have been a huge land separating earthquake that they didn't tell us about. The beach is on a lake and the waterfront, well I always had the impression that it was a river but could be on the lake. One of the Great Lakes?

The town of Salem is the setting for the soap opera Days of our Lives. It is located in the Midwestern United States, though the state is never mentioned. Originally set in New England, the vague setting was moved to somewhere in the Midwest in the 1970s. Recent episodes indicate that Salem has a ZIP code of 06603. While this ZIP code does not actually exist, both codes 06602 and 06604 are part of Bridgeport, Connecticut.
While it is constantly referenced as a town, it features more characteristics of a city; for example it is home of the large, multinational corporations Titan Industries and Basic Black, Mithic Incorporated, as well as a full University and an international airport.
Interestingly enough, despite its location in the midwest, Salem has a thriving industrial harbor.

Great ? Who knows where Salem is apparently it's in the Midwest but not close enough to drive to Chicago anymore but just close enough to drive to the Canadian border. I think that we soap watchers read way more into the stories than the writers want us to. Sometimes they make Salem to be a small town located somewhere anywhere then sometimes it's a big city that houses several major companies re: Mythic, Titan and Basic Black. Funny huh

If this is really what you think is going on you are completely off the reservation. I love how lefties turn "free birth control" into "women's rights". Nobody has the right to other peoples property; money or otherwise. What about the rights of the people that believe with every fiber of their being that birth control is bad? You are suggesting that they should be forced by gunpoint to pay for something they think is a mortal sin? And yes, taxes are demanded at gunpoint. They are polite about it; they don't show you the gun until you refuse to pay, but trust me, you will meet the business end of a gun if you refuse to pay your taxes long enough. Conservatives are not anti women. Liberals are against any opinion that differs from their own. They don't understand what it's like to be a person of faith, so they totally discount them as a bunch of idiots. I've never seen such intolerance as demonstrated by the Democratic party in the last 30 years. By the way, who said it was the "conservatives" that burned witches? In 1600 there was no republican party idiot, and pretty much everybody was conservative. But let's pretend that the GOP existed in the 1600's, I love how something that happened over 300 years ago reflects upon us to this day, but something actual conservative republicans did 150 years ago, freeing the slaves, doesn't reflect on republicans of today. Get your story straight moron.

They mold the town to whatever fits in the story line. It has rivers & lakes. Sometimes it seems like a small town, sometimes it seem like a big city. It seems like it moves around too. Like you said, they drove to Canada, but are now flying to Chicago.

They're pretty vague about it, but Salem is supposed to be somewhere in the Midwest.

It's wherever they need it to be at any particular time. They suggest that it's in the midwest, but Linda referred to the burning of the witches once. So it's wherever they need or want it to be.
It's kinda like Brigadoon, but instead of playing with time, they tinker with location.
