Is true love a myth for the modern man?

Question

You know the deal; they say that modern man is so obsessed with the material world that he can never really love a woman with all his heart.
What do you think?
And how about women of our time?

Just wanted to ask the same question. But I don't think it has something to do with modern days. "Decameron" by Boccaccio written in 14th century doesn't provide enough confirmation of existence of such a thing. Most stories about "true love" seem biassed and based on much chemistry.

I am though still wishing for this great idea to come true at least in my personal case. But I guess that the reason preventing me from falling in love with the first (let's be honest, not even second or fifth) guy who says that he loves me, is not any materialism, but too much thinking and expecting.

I am afraid that at least in my case waiting for true love prevents love.

My marriage suggests this is not necessarily true. That said, it probably IS true for a lot of modern men, and women, too. I would not go so far as to say it is a myth, though. If I can do it, then there is no reason others can't. Mostly I think people simply are not willing to risk their materials and put in the effort. Life comes at you fast, now, and everyone wants a simple answer and quick fix to their problems. True love simply isn't like that. True love is waiting for anybody who wants to put in the effort to understand it and make it work.

it is up to the modern man or woman to exert effort if and when he/she thinks that he/she has found true love.i don't think love at first sight counts as true love.true love needs effort from both parties.
