Sometimes I think the whole idea of political correctness is getting a bit out of control. Before I say anything else, I just want to clarify this: I am by no means racist, I am as vehemently opposed to racism as the next person. Saying this though, I think that people should have a sense of humour about the matter as well. Politicians are afraid to say anything which has anything to do with race, creed or colour. And why does is it almost acceptable to make jokes about some cultures, but not others? For example, I'm Irish and if somebody called me a potato-picking bog trotter, I would just laugh and I'm sure 90% of the Irish population would. However, if somebody said something similar to an African or Asian, there would be huge uproar. I am not talking about not standing up against racism, I am merely saying that perhaps people should have a sense of humour and not get offended at the slightest thing.

Maybe I am completely wrong, what do you guys think?

I think political correctness has gone way over board. i know that Arican Americans' still refer to white people as crackers and honkeys in their neighborhoods. And in the school system you can see that many black girls (in particular) are very prejudice against a white person. Anytime a black girl has ever gotten into trouble in my classroom, they always told me I was prejudice. However, usually the African American boys would tell them quickly to shut up.

I am also completely against racism but agree that some people do get all worked up over little things. I have had comments made to me about me race and if the person was just joking or didn't mean any harm than i let it go. sometimes people say things for the sole purpose of inflicting wounds. i might get upset with the person and i might not. i guess it depends on my mood when the person says something.

in short i hate racism and i hate political correctness

Yes, and this site is the worst for that. If you disagree with someone on any matter, you get reported. I get reported by every single homosexual and Muslim on here-but it tickles me pink. Just make sure you download Google's new toolbar and use their bookmarks so that if you ever get deleted on this site, you'll have them for future reference. I got deleted once for saying I didn't believe homosexuals were born that way and I lost my Yahoo! bookmarks! I didn't care about the Answer's account or the My Yahoo page or the email or the 360 but losing the bookmarks that I had been saving for over a year hurt. Also, they did a study and found that Yahoo's search engine had more viruses than google, msn or aol. Aol had the fewest by the way.

I can't stand this PC garbage. And to be honest, do you see how you had to state off right away your not a racist? Since when is it against the law to not like some people? Even if you were a racist that would be your own damn business. It's like some people want to control the way some people feel....that's crazy.

Well you understand for a long time and even today blacks and Asians are treated as second class citizen, and by you making fun of them, it may seem you are trying to show superiority over their race. It really depend on the person, some people you can fun of for being fat some you can't.

I agree with you. Political Correctness is destroying the back bone of our society. Every body is walking on egg shells whenever they open their mouth.

If somebody calls you a potato-picking bog trotter you laugh it off because it is not true. ?If a similar comment is made to a black, they get upset because it probably is true.
