Yeah, they don't belong on the roads in their buggies because it's bloody dangerous. The really don't smell all that good as often as not. They're very nice and always helpful which I hate when I'm in a bad mood. They like to sell random handy crafts and they don't have to pay a lot of taxes the rest of us do. They build houses and what not and do it a lot cheaper than most non amish contractors do. They have a major inbreeding problem and they actually trade women among communities to combat this. The young ones apparently can drink like champs as well. At age 18 they get a certain period of time where they get to "decide if they want to continue being amish" or enter normal society but if they do they are shunned by their family and friends forever. Did I mention they shouldn't be allowed on the roads... They do watch tv, they watched nascar at my house while they did work there, they just won't own tv's. They won't drive or own cars but they have no problem riding in them. They do use nails, and they use electricity and power tools but not within their communities, just when they do work for others. I don't know why. Hope that helps.

I know it's only Hollywood, but I found the movie "Witness" to be facinating. I thought it portrayed Amish life a lot like I think it is. I realize that doesn't make it true, but you might try renting the movie just to get a bit of an idea.

the Amish live a very pious/ zelous life. taking direction for every aspect of life from their puritan bible.
their community is based on mutual respect and family values. they care deeply for the disabled and the old.
They are wonderful cooks hehe ( my friend Beccah, used to be Amish. but she left to live in Sydny. shes amazin at cookin!!)
but they are very insular, and dont know or want to know much about current affairs or foreign cultures.
thats about all i knw

What goes clippity clop, clippity clop, clippity clop,
BANG BANG BANG
clippity clop, clippity clop, clippity clop?
An Amish drive-by shooting.
Their heritage is Dutch; they are devout Christians (probably more than most "christians" in society). They do not let the conveniences of life, society, culture, and technology sway their faith or be a distraction to it. In many ways, I envy them.

They don't use nails. Don't watch TV. Grow their own food.
