Just make sure that the new RAM is compatible with the old. I prefer to remove all the old RAM and replace with new, that way you know the RAM is compatible. But, sometimes you just don't have the money to do that. You might want to pull the old RAM out to get the numbers off of it.

Yes - you can do this easily. You must get your system information in detail and then go online or to computer store and buy additional memory stick (card). Your mother board most likely has three slots for memory cards and you could add two more. If you only have one extra slot, then I recommend a new 512 card and leave the current 256 in there too. Have them in the store show you where the card goes. It is really really simple to open case and plug one in and then when you restart is goes on it's own - nothing to do and no disk to load - memory just starts up with your computer.

you can use 512 mb of ram using two 256 mb ram sticks only if:---
you have two or more RAM slots (ofcourse u do)
and if both RAM sticks are of same types (SDRAM or DDRAM)
and only if your RAM stick frequency are same
(two different RAM sticks of different frequency cant run together!!)
And when evr theres any problem wid RAM th it will give u A BEEP sound .
so chck out the type of RAM u got and its frequency.
u can use system information info frm control bar or any other application such suse hardware test application to check ur RAM sticks independently .

try the 512 on my own. If it nevertheless does no longer paintings, that's the incorrect reminiscence for the computing gadget. Or it ought to be in pairs to paintings (reckoning on the kind of reminiscence) If it fairly works alongside, then that's a distinct kind or p.c. from the different 2 chips and by no ability nicely perfect with them. both way, you'll want to modify it for reminiscence of an similar kind and p.c. as both chips already contained in the computing gadget, or purchase a second 512 to verify the first.

As long as the RAM sticks are compatible each each other, no problem.
Check the labels on them.
