It is a tower unit, CD read/write, DVD rom, 6 USB plugs, AMD Sempron Processor 2800+, 1.60 GHz, 512 MB of RAM. I have installed a G force 4 graphics card, nvidia I think. I will also supply logitech keyboard, microsoft infra-red mouse, and desktop speakers. All cables too, obviously.

If it includes a tft monitor then £400 is probably almost realistic, if it doesn't (you have not listed one above) then I would say £400 is a bit optimistic. You could buy all of what you have listed above brand new from somewhere like www.novatech.co.uk for inside of £400.
Second hand in a shop I would say more like £200 with no monitor or £250-£300 with a tft monitor.
Private sale would be better, a computer store with no doubt rip you off in much the same way that a car dealer would.

I bought a core 2 duo 1.86 ghz system running Vista Home Premium, dvd/cd-rw, 1 gig of ram and 160 meg HD, 7300 256 mg video card, with keyboard, mouse, for $430 off the dell outlet site. It's a refurbished unit returned for a dent/scratch. With shipping and tax it was $512.

I can buy the parts you list for sale for under $200 dollars...still, you may find someone gullible.

Not a lot - if you think that someone going to the dell website could get a system way fatser for £299, it sort of says you will have to set you expectations low. But you never know, check out Ebay for similar spec and see what they are going for. If I was buy i would only offer £100 for the reasoning that 299 buys a new system from Dell. Hope this helps. Good luck.

simple answer go to pricewatch and look up a comparable system. most of the computer sellers there use an on-line configurator so a buyer can basically biuld there own system.
seeing as how your system is used and not brand new you should probably deduct 20% from the total you get from pricewatch. the single core systems are obsolete now with all the major makers offering core dual system for 700 to a 1000 dollars..

Well, all the specs are at least 3 years out of date.
A new computer with similar specs would cost 300 pounds.
Considering that it is second hand, you could expect half of that amount, around one hundred and fifty, but only if you sell it to someone who has no idea about machines...
