I have just got a new laptop and need to transfer files from my PC to it. Both are connected to my wireless router (the PC through a wired connection, the laptop through a wireless conection), can someone explain how I can transfer files from on to the other.

Thanks.

"To share a drive or folder on the network
Open Windows Explorer, and then locate the drive or folder you want to share.
Right-click the drive or folder, and then click Sharing and Security.
If you are sharing a drive, on the Sharing tab, click If you understand the risk but still want to share the root of the drive, click here.
If you are sharing a folder, go to the next step.
Do one of the following:
If the Share this folder on the network check box is available, select the check box.
If the Share this folder on the network check box is not available, this computer is not on a network. If you would like to set up a home or small office network, click the Network Setup Wizard link and follow the instructions to turn on file sharing. Once file sharing is enabled, begin this procedure again."

"To open the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard, click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. "

I found these in "Help and Support".

If still stumped, back up (copy to CD / DVD / external hard drive) all your personal data from the old PC and drag & drop to the new one.

Put all the files needed into 1 folder.
Then right click on the folder Go to properties.
Select the Sharing tab
Under the network and sharing secutiy option, Setup the sharing wizard. Just click next and so on. Then click on the folder again, you should see a box to tick the share this file option.
Do it to both ur PC and Laptop.
Once you are done, you need to know the computer name to access the PC or Laptop.
To get ur computer name
Right Click on My Computer in ur Desktop, choose properties. And select the Computer name tab. You should be able to see the COmputer name.
ou should also be able to see the Workgroup, by default Windows workgroup should be MSHOME. Make sure it is the same in both ur PC and laptop.
FInally, you can access by doing this
Go to Run
type in \\COMPUTERNAME
Example Ur laptop name is Lap
Computername is PC1
If you wan tto access the computer from ur Laptop
you should type \\PC1

1st time it might be tough.. As you will need to setup things and make sure the workgroup is the same.
But the next time you do it.. You just have to right click on the folder, choose sharing tab. Give it a name. and a Hand symbol will appear on the folder to tell you that the folder is now shared. And you just have to type the command.. Easy as that.
Gd luck..
Keep ur updates coming is you have problem

First find out what the IP address is of the computer storing the files, simply go to Start -> Run -> type cmd -> click OK. You should get a DOS window, type ipconfig and note the IP address.

You now want to set sharing on the folders storing the files you want to transfer. From memory you can right-click the folder and go to Sharing (may depend on your version of Winodws).

Now on the computer you want to transfer the files to go to Start -> Run -> and type \\ then the IP address. If the IP address was 10.1.1.1 you would type \\10.1.1.1 and then press OK.

You should now have a display of all the folders setup for sharing, just drag and drop the files you want.

if it's not too many files, you could use a flash card. Setting up an MS network is the best way though.
