I totally agree. I saw a woman on Dr. Phil a year or so ago who wanted to sue (I think it was Burger King), because her child was overweight! Dr. Phil said "Well who buys her the food? Who drives her to BK? Does she have a job that she buys her own?" It IS ridiculous, BUT, don't you think it might make your trip to the grocery store a little easier if our kids aren't being bombarded with this ad and that ad? Then the child feels like, "gee, Bobby's mom buys HIM such and such why won't you?" See what I mean? Yes it is our responsibility as parents, but kids are easy advert. targets to sell junky cereal and the like.

I think it's just the different kinds of personalities who cause all the ruckous. Women are very competative. They always look down on another woman if she's prettier, smarter, or has a better job. The ones complaining are more than likely just jealous. A woman decides if she wants the world of out of the house job and then you have the old fashioned ones who still feel a womans place is in the home. I've worked on a few different crews where I was the only woman. I think I did well, because I could hold my own most of the time and I was a tom boy all my life anyways. I didn't like any job that has had more than 2 or 3 females anyways. They all gossip too much and seem to cause alot more stress to another woman if they can. For those woman who can get great paying jobs and climb the ladder of succsess, I applaud them. For those who want to be housewives, I also applaude them. I don't really care what a man's opinion is on this! LOL

You are so very right!!! The media and government are sending mixed messages. Like having a maketing tie-in between Shrek and McDonalds. They were marketing Shrek telling kids to get outside and eat healthier. And then go eat McDonalds!!!! No wonder kids are so mixed up nowadays. And it should be the parents responsibility to make sure their child is eating healthy. But parents let the children tell them what they are eating-chicken nuggets and french fries. I used to do restaurant work and the kids would throw a fit if th parent tried to get them to eat veggies or friut. All kids love grilled cheeses, hamburgers and french fries.

the government isn't stopping you from choosing what cereals your kids eat, apparently from what you are saying, i did catch some of that story too, they have decided to stop soliciting young children with sugary cereals during kids tv programs. I don't think the govt should tell us what to do either, but I'm glad to see this, I wasn't aware the govt was behind it though. as a parent it is our responsibility to offer good health to our children. this nations youth are getting fatter and lazier, so i think this is one small step in the right direction. i've studied children's media in college and it is a shame the way children's programming on cable is a barrage of advertising and brand identification. i've got 2 young kids and we don't have cable, they watch sesame street and the like.
by the way, the government isn't blocking the sale of unhealthy cereal. the advertising of it during kids programming is stopping. there's a difference.

I dunno! I agree in some respects with you. BUT, if they are going to take away the commercial because the treat isn't good for kids, and will only fuel the obesity epidemic further-why not even go even further and ban the treat, and all other unhealthy treats? I personally, don't think that is a absolutely terrible idea...
Altho', I will be buying chocolate on the black market if it comes down to it. Watch. I will end up getting carob instead of good quality chocolate...Hmmph.

The government has been regulating the news and TV for a long, long time. There is quite a bit of things that happen that are interesting that we never know about.

Thank you dear!
You are 100% correct...YOUR child is YOUR responsibility!
I refuse to acknowledge the fact that they do these things....I feed my child three balanced meals a day....and he can snack when he's hungry!
I say...
Let the kids be kids....let them watch cartoons (even the Coyote falling over the cliff), play outside even if it's raining, eat like kids!!!
They are only children once....don't force them to grow up too fast.

Oh whatever to your first answerer of the day. He sure wants to tick off a few women.About your question, you are right that the government is over-regulating our daily lives. But the other side of the coin reveals that we need to have big brother keeping us informed.

If kids are that influenced by commericals, they are obviously spending too much time sat in front of it. I agree that parents need to accept responsibilty for what their kids are doing and eating and stop blaming McDonalds for their kids being fat
