When you encounter someone for the first time, you need to make a quick decision - friend, foe, rapist, mugger, double glazing salesman. That's when instincts and prejudices snap in. Generally we regard people as potentially hostile if they don't look like they are from our extended family.

It's just how were built
it's the first thing projected to our minds and the images are formed are what is right in front of us, other than sound smell and touch that is one of our main senses
so we are programed to go through life seeing things on the visual level and telling our minds to adapt to it
so we use it to sense one another
such as cats and dogs do with sounds and smells
so we as human have vision so naturally we make an assessment about the object and so we judge it
it's not a shallow thing it's just part of our natural anatomy what we do with it is what makes someone shallow
meaning whether we are mean or ignorant towards one another
so thats why appearance are a big thing in this society and not just about media and all the typical bs people give you
so yeah there you go the simple solutions is usually the right one..

Because to great extent, a person creates his/her own appearance-- the colors we wear, whether our clothes are neat, how our hair looks, whether our shoes are shined, etc. These all say we care or don't care what others think of us. You would be right to say that clothes and appearance aren't everything, but they are what people see as a first impression. And sometimes a first impression is the only one a person will get the time to make.

Becuse when we were cavemen, that was the only way we could tell if someone was safe or not. As in diseased, a different tribe, etc. Also to judge who would be the heartiest parent for our child. It's instinct. We just take it a step further because our societies have come further. It seems a perfectly natural and logical way to at least give us an idea of someone.

Your outward appearance projects to the world, your attitude, personality, likes and dislikes.
Your appearance isnt just about your clothes or your hygiene levels its much more than that.
Humans are exellent at deceiphering a persona based on clothes, hygiene, gait, body language and facial expression in double quick time even before you say a word.
Aren't we amazing.

i dont think everyone does...i think probably half of all people you meet throughout your life will be predisposed to this type of thinking and the other half wont be...i think some people are more likely to judge you by your appearance alone because those are the kinds of values they were taught growing up and continue to hold onto them because they havent been able to experience an environment where appearances come second...however, i think its simply human nature for us to judge each other on first impressions to a certain degree...but for those who do it persistently and to a higher degree its probably because they have never had the opportunity to know any other way or because they retain some kind of bias toward outward appearance because of a certain event in their lives...

I would think people have a perceived idea that how you
dress reflects on your personality ? if you look like a tramp
but are scrupulously clean most folk avoid you even though
you are a million heir, which as happened.
But what i use for the thumb of rule is,
It`s Not the Clothes that Make the Man But
The Man Who Makes The Clothes.

It is the first thing people see/know about you.
What someone wears is a huge reflection of ones self..
or excessive makeup... hairstyles etc...
I have always had self image problems because of peoples judgemental stares.. but that's just life unfortunately..
just like in the wild.. animals look for beautiful healthy mates.

People seem to be more comfortable with others who look similar to themselves, dress similar, etc. I think it is just a natural instinct to make a quick judgement call about someone when you first see them. I think most people, however, when given the opportunity to talk to those who "look" different from themselves, are able to form better decisions about that person and what they are really like. Our society bases so much on looks also. It's not right, but I think it's part of being human and our natural instincts.
