Not very common at all.
Do a test if you're unsure but I would say you weren't pregnant.
This excuse is used by the women who "pretend" they didnt know they were pregnant. funny that.

Menstruation usually stops when a woman is pregnant. However, in some cases, a woman might have a period with less blood or that lasts fewer days than usual and still be pregnant. Your confusion is understandable because these signs can lead women to believe they are not pregnant. However, various kinds of bleeding can occur in early pregnancy. Women can get some spotting in their first trimester:
* when the fertilized egg implants in the uterus;
* if the pregnancy is abnormal in any way [i.e., ectopic pregnancy (implantation outside of the uterus, such as in a fallopian tube), a threatening miscarriage]; or,
* from bleeding as part of their menstrual cycle (this is extremely rare).

it is not very common, although it is still possible. about 1-2% of the women have it, especially in the first 2-3 months of their pregnancy. these "periods" although coming at regular intervals, exactly when they are supposed to, are much weaker, with less blood, also the color of the blood is different. nevertheless, a pregnancy test will still be able to give a positive if pregnant.

There are a few things to consider. First of all, if the bleeding is light, this could be the implantation. If you have other "signs" of pregnancy, it is possible that you are miscarrying, but keep in mind that many "signs" of pregnancy are also signs of PMS eg. tender breasts, bloating, cramping, even nausea can be PMS. Take an at home test. If it is negative, no worries, if it positive, see your OB/GYN asap.

Some women bleed during pregnancy, however if it was a large bleed (similar to that of a period) you need to speak to your doctor cos that not a good sign.
I am concerned you say you have other 'signs' have you had your pregnancy confirmed or are you just guessing you are pregnant cos of the signs?
Get yourself to the doctors and discuss it.

You dont say how far gone you are but apparently it is quite normal during the early stages whilst your body is adjusting ... if you are worried speak to someone in NHS Direct or your doctor.
