You're being extremely cynical. Did they use the term "time out"? or is that your own pretty version of the fact that they're slowing down? Look, they've been practically stoned since that tragic day & they must be emotionally & physically drained by now. Naturally, they'd slow down. Don't read such sinister motives into everything they do or don't.
