I don't know how a dog coughs. Your baby needs to be seen by a pediatrician. Please call her doctor and describe her symptoms. He will probably want to see the baby today. Newborn babies need immediate medical attention when they are sick.

Your child has what is called Croup. It is a virus in the vocal cords. While mostly not dangerous, it gets dangerous when dehydration starts and the childs respirations get fast. I would suggest going to the Dr. They can either tell you to wait it out, if it is not bad, or give the child a breathing treatment or steroid shot if needed. We have dealt with this twice, once needed a treatment, the other waiting it out. A steamy bathroom will help with the cough as will setting the baby's face up towards the open freezer door to breath in the cool air. A cool mist humidifier should be ran at night to relieve the childs symptoms also.
Again, usually not dangerous, but it can get to the point of trouble.
Trust yourself, not others. Better safe then sorry right?

Call your Pediatrician, and tell him/her about it, then take the Baby in. If you have no insurance take the Baby to ER, you need to get medicine for the Baby, it can be very serious for a Baby, the symptoms are always smaller since the The Baby is small, and it may not look so serious to you, however it is of great concern for the Baby. Take care of the Baby well, and take her in for medical help, the Baby will get well again soon, and you will be happy that you did.

This could be serious. Take her in to the doctor.
Who cares what you already told people. What is more important, your child's life, or your reputation among friends?
I cannot stress enough that this could be serious. Any sort of illness is bad, but with the symptoms you describe, she may require medication, and or hospitalization, depending on her age.
Anything that makes a baby cough that hard NEEDS to be checked out!

Its sounds as if your baby as bronculitis.. .The throwing up while coughing is normal as i was told by a paed today cause my son does the same thing. The paed told me that the coughing is the same thing as us trying to throw up. Check to see if you babys stomach is caving in around the ribs when breathing. You should take your baby to the hospital to check their oxygen levels as if they are not getting enough oxygen then they can give them oxygen alsothey can check to see whether it is anything serious such as pneumonia

I still would go to the doctor. A baby can dehydrate quickly if she is throwing up. They can also give you something for the cough.

The medicine recommended by Michelle works great, do not give her milk though, for some reason milk is not digested when cough is present, try some alternatives as a very mild chamomile tea. She will also need electrolytes. I hope she feels better, and you too!

I would personally take my baby to a different doctor...how old is your baby? My baby had similar symptoms and my doc was able to give me a very low dosage of cough medicine and it cleared him right up.

If this has been happening for more than 6 hours, you need to get your child to a hospital, its sounds like a virus, but if your child is dehydrated then you are going to need medical help, to enable them to become healthy again. Please take your child to the ER.
