Remember the famous quote by President Kennedy. "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country!" This I feel is a good answer to your question.

As doers of the Word we put into practice what we believe. Hearers hear but do not live the Word.

It means that you should not just listen to complaints but do something about it. Be active, as in a "doer," and not just a person who listens but does nothing to make the world better.

As pointed out by others...it is "word" and it means that we are to not only listen to what the Bible and those teaching us Christian priniciples say but to act on it..be a doer. When I was growing up it was called..."Walk the talk."

It's the same as "can't hear the trees for the forest". One can get lost in a crowd of followers!
Do something instead of listening and wishing you had done "it" first.
