I'm a born again Christian and can Bible Bash with the best of them - they get as good as they give; I'm never bothered and I used to live near about five households of JWs.
As for knocking on doors, they are taking The Great Commission literally. I've only done that once and vowed never again.
Invading a person's personal area (ie their home) and telling them something they don't particularly want to know and not leaving when requested is neither showing that you respect them nor that you 'love' them (Love Thy Neighbour type of thing).
Even though I don't proselytize, I think most people either know or have an inkling that I hold strong beliefs. If it comes up in conversation or they ask me a question, I respect their right not to have it thrust down their throats.
Science, mind; that's a whole different kettle of fish. They get to hear the newest theory or discovery I've heard about at the first possible moment and usually with great enthusiasm.

A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to "recruit" a householder, or get him to "convert". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!
That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.
(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.
Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:
(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

Well, many religions believe that they need to interact with people door to door. I have a friend that is Mormon and he is on a mission in Europe where he does something similar and for him there are many people who are very open to listening to what they have to say and who actually convert because of it. I give them credit for being bold enough to try and spread their word. I wish that I was as courageous.

Just tell them your are Catholic, even if you are not.
OR: Apepar at the door wearing a "Blood Donors Love Life" T-shirt, bottle of beer in one hand and Black Sabbath on the hi-fi. One of my friends did that to them by accident and they said "Oh...Sorry to bother you...Urrmmm...bye"

Don't get me STARTED, on my opinions, of these "INDIVIDUALS", but, - as an "EXAMPLE", of said "OPINIONS", please, refer to their widely-known belief, that the usage of BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS, - during operations, - is "SINFUL", or "AN ABOMINATION"!
That's CRAZY! It is well known, that, such things, can, - and, DO, - actually, save LIVES! THEY would stand BY, and, allow THEIR kids, to DIE, - rather, than grant permission, for a life-saving TRANSFUSION, to take place!
They might SEEM "PLEASANT" individuals, - but, they AIN'T!
