Inzaghi scored important goals in EURO 2004 qualifying but Trapattoni didn't call him up for the final tournament. Instead choosing strikers like Di Vaio and Corradi. Lippi probably only chose to include Pippo cause he's a fan favorite and he didn't wanna deal with criticism. I hear they had problems with eachother at Juve. Lippi only used him in the last 25 minutes against an already beaten Czech Rep. team. Even when he scored Lippi didn't seem impressed and Gattuso said something to Marcelo about Pippo which didn't please him. Come on. Laquinta? It seems to me like Inzaghi's unappreciated. Which is why it is great that he put 2 in the goal at the UCL Final.

There are personal choices, but you should also remember a coach have to choose a player grounding on his condition in that specific days; and Inzaghi had to stop twice for months during latest years (last year played just half championship with Milan). So now Inzaghi is in great shape, and he's playing.

I don't know what Italian coaches have against Inzaghi but he's certainly a polarising player. He gets caught in offside positions a lot which is annoying to watch if you're a fan of a team he's playing for. Ferguson once said "Pippo Inzaghi was born in an offside position" when he heard Inzaghi was the most offside player in football. Jaap Stam called him a "diving cheat" and Inzaghi does sometimes tumble a bit theatrically

Even Cruyff said ''He can’t actually play football. He just always seems to be in the right place.”

I'd agree with Cruyff's assessment. Inzaghi rarely shows much skill on the ball but he can be a good finisher because he gets in good positions.

He did score 2 against Liverpool but he didn't do much to score that first goal except force the ball to take a deflection and even then you could question how much he actually knew about where the ball would be. His 2nd was pretty well taken though

i agree inzaghi is an important player and coaches dont seem to use him which is unfortunate because he is the type of player that gives his all on the field always looking to participate. i was really upset when lippi used him for only one match because pippo was coming from having a great season with milan.

He's definitely under appreciated, but the thing is SuperPippo is so good without the ball in his feet, and that in itself is often under appreciated you can't say the guy has been LUCKY for 10 years that's just ludicrous. With Ac Milan he's very much liked and appreciated by fans and coaches.

The thing you need to remember is that Pippo is 34 and rather Skinny, so he's not a player that can take 30-40 games a year, and therefore must only be used in big matches where he often delivers.

Italy has a roster full of good players, so giving out playing time is not always fair. But if a player is diificult, it makes the decision a lot easier.

many coaches have reasons not to play a player, and usually it is one of the very good players on the teams. i think it is just because he wants to play other players.
