I think you have something in mind by looking at your nick name.
A Betta! Fighting fish.
They are hardy fish that don't require too much of attention. Angelfish are quite hardy too - but 1 angelfish is not very interesting to watch.
Ever think about something other than fish? Albino frogs? Box Tortises? Something more exotic. (I know, they are hard to find in Singapore.)

It would be best if you supplied how old your son is and what size tank you have or are planning for him. When it comes to children, expect the tank to get neglected unless you plan on maintaining it yourself.
If the tank is going to be a bowl - well, no fish should be kept in a bowl.
Goldfish are one of the most misunderstood and abused fish there are. They grow massive, can live over 20 years (and up to 40) when cared for properly, and need huge tanks or ponds in the long run. My estimate is that 99% or more of goldfish die prematurely from stunted growth and/or foul water.
If it's going to be a very tiny nano tank (5 gallons) then a betta is your best bet - they're inexpensive, robust, and attractive, and stay small, and are not fast swimmers.
If its going to be 10-20 gallons (highly recommended for ease of maintenance and space for fish) it opens up a few options. A small community can be done with small tetras or rasboras, cordora catfish, shrimp, cherry barbs, guppies, and/or dwarf gourami.
Before you buy anything, buy a book and learn, and help your son learn, about setting up a tank and choosing and caring for fish.

It depends on the size tank you have And if you have other fish already. Have you ever thought about African dwarf frogs. You would need at least a 5 gallon tank. These frogs live underwater all the time only swim to top to get air and they do live with a lot of other tropical freshwater fish. And there very easy to care for. They do have to be kept in a tank with a heater and filter. They are lots of fun to watch and there very active. I put a link below tell some about these frogs if your interested. GOOD LUCK

My suggestion would be to sit down with your son and the computer or a fish book (or go to a pet store) and ask what kind he'd like. Then you can both research what you'll have to get for it. If you do this together, you'll learn about what kind of care the fish will need and what size tank.
Here are a few websites, and links with fish information to help you out:

I guess the main questions are: how old is your son, how big is the tank you're putting the fish in...and does it have any other inhabitants?
Next..does he want fish? Is he old enough to take care of them?

If cold water - get him a couple of gold fish - otherwise if your thinking of getting a tropical tank get a few guppies.

ok this the matter of son,in my opinion you will go with a pair of gold fish and a pair of tiger shark.Do not select the angel or any palete fish because they die in little span of timeif fishes start dieing then your son will be upset with that so do as i tell you.

an easy fish to keep in which you dont need a large tank is a beta fish. Just remember they have to be by themselves.
