We don't 'need' money - it's an illusion, but, in this point in history our lives totally revolve around it. It's a choice that is based on lifestyle there are ways to live with less focus on money for example barter based communities.
The best things in life are free - this depends greatly where you place most value; be it material wealth or emotional/spiritual experience!

Everybody can have access to the best things in life: water, air, etc...
Money is the tool to elevate people above that minimum standard of living. Unfortunately, many people stop seeing money as a tool and instead turn to worship it as if it were a god.

Blue Eyes gets my vote! Love & Family are the best life has to offer. In my opinion!
Then there is housing, light, auto/gas, clothes! ( not necessarily in that order). Forgot food!!

because there aren't many best things in life which is not enough,so we need to go for second best which costs us quite a bit of money.
