Probably slowed down by useless junk on your computer and/or virus, spyware etc...I suggest using CCleaner to get rid of all the useless junk...and for viruses use something like AVG. Both are free

Another application is probably running in the background and taking up system resources. If you type ctrl-alt-del you can bring up task manager and check which applications are using how much system memory.
Then check your taskbar (lower right corner of your screen usually) and try to close some applications, see if it runs better that way.
You might also check and see if unnecessary applications are running at startup - start menu/ run then type msconfig.exe to show a list of all the programs your computer runs at startup. You can uncheck programs on this list that you don't want to run at startup all the time. Use with caution, you don't want to accidentally disable your antivirus software by mistake for instance.
If you are trying to play 2 large games at once (this has happened to me before when trying to play The Sims by Maxis and play Solitaire while the game was loading) you may have to settle for just one game at a time.

It seems that some program is running in the background and is affecting the speed of the processing....try uninstallaing unnecessary program installed from Add/Remove Program in Control Panel.....Try to run the laptom after disabling the start-up program and see whether it is working fine....if it is working fine, there is some program in the srartup doing the problem...uninstall/disable that program....

Something is running in the background, you could be infected with some virus/trojans/spywares, when this happens, it will take away a lot of processing power from your computer, making everything else slower than it should.
Try updating your anti virus and scan your computer and download a spyware scanner

You're computer is running many processes at the same time, causing these brief 'hangs' you describe. Check what is running, and see if its really necessary.
