Surely general happiness and wellbeing are difficult to compartmentalise? Why else would sport be such a great relief to the stress you might generate in your work life? Why else would holidays revitalise you for other life challenges?
Given this it's clear that improving one part of your life must surely have a positive impact on other areas - it would take very strong mental barriers to separate very differing parts of your life, and ultimately even barriers we're aware of get undermined by our subconscious. We're all better off, walls down, being open and honest.

I suffer with depression, it took over my life and I was suicidal, I felt ashamed of the fact I was depressed and didn't want to be labelled so I avoided going to the doctors. However, the longer I put it off the worse it became, It zapped all my energy and I hardly ever saw my friends and family, my education was suffering and later my work too. I lost relationships through it and friends too. I tried to take my own life for the second time before I finally found the courage to speak up, everyone was really kind and supportive and now I'm able to live my life again. Since getting help I have married the man of my dreams, I'm taking an NVQ and have gained several other qualifications, moved away from the area I was living and have a whole new circle of friends. Getting help was the best thing I have EVER done, my whole life has changed, I now realise just how lucky I am and would never dream of attempting suicide again, no matter how bad I felt, I know that nothing is as bad as it seems and when you hit rock bottom the only way is up. xx

Generally when you make a change in a certain area, you end up changing more than just that particular behavior -- the underlying beliefs, habits, and ideas that are linked to that behavior will also be affected, and these are complexly linked to other behaviors and attitudes in many different domains of your life. So, change can generalize in that way.
Also, before you made that initial improvement, you had to look yourself straight in the eye and admit that it was a change that needed to be made -- and that sort of honesty and insight has far-reaching effects in many areas or your life, especially if combined with willpower and committment.
Last, improving yourself usually carries with it a good deal of positive energy, which will attract positive people and increase your exposure to other good events, which can increase your overall sense of well-being, and you'll become more effective (think about the opposite of what being depressed does to your mental and physical functioning). There's nothing metaphysical about it, either.

In the same way that letting something go can have a spiral effect down, negativity breads as does positivity and can be infectious. so many different analogies can be used to answer a simple question, improve yourself also helps to improve others. Raise your self esteem and also your confidence, raise your confidence your raise your chances of finding happiness as you are more assertive and get trodden on less, being more assertive can lead to a career you dictate this then leads to a happier home life so you have more happy time with the kids. In short improving yourself breads and manifests into greater things. Unfortunately it works both ways

By improving in one area, the feel good factor created can and should impact on other areas. For example if One was to lose weight, and receive compliments on the new slimmer look, it could trigger the impulse to enhance ones total image by dint of improved grooming and dressing. Or if one was to improve ones education then it is bound to add to the total enjoyment of life, because more knowledge is guaranteed to bring a better quality of life . Reading is an excellent way to improve oneself, and the beauty of it is that it really does not matter what you read as it all adds to the sum total of your perceived knowledge, making you a more rounded and fulfilled person.

improving yourself in one area of your life can have a positive impact on other areas because you can use this improvement as a strength. the improvement is proof that change has taken place, which can be used to show a person how they have progressed.

Surely this is a question about self-esteem.
If, as an individual you recognise that to improve the quality of your life you have to make some alterations, then you have acknowledged that you need to change the pattern of your behaviour.
Once this process has begun and you see differences in the pattern of your life, then this will have an impact on other areas in your life too.
