I'll try to keep this short! Was on dianette and after my seven day break went to take my pill from next packet but there was no next packet - i had run out. I'd wanted to change my pill anyway as Dianette is quite strong so decided to order new pill from the Doctor and wait till I got my first real period to start taking it. However my period hasn't come. I kept expecting it to start and now it's been around 2 months and still nothing.

I've no signs of pregnancy and haven't had unprotected sex, but I'm getting worried. Is this normal? Or should I go for a pregnancy test now?

This is normal. Your body and your hormones are trying to get adjusted all over again. It's going to take a couple of months for your body to regulate its self. I would notify your doc. and tell them what's going on and maybe they could help you out on making a decision on what to do. Since your old pill was so strong that could be messing with all the estrogen in your body also.

When switching from one pill to another you should either run the old pack and the new pack back to back or in some cases start after the seven day pill free break. unlike when starting the pill for the first time you should not wait untill your next period to start the new pack.

that being said it is very normal to not have a period for several months and in some cases over a year following stopping the contraceptive pill.

The reason dianette is not recommended for long term use is related to its high risk of DVT compared with licenced contraceptives. Dianette is only licenced as a treatment for acne in women but has the additional benefit of contraceptive activity which prevents the need for an additional contraceptive pill.

This may sound like a bit of a stupid question, but have you done a test? My periods were all over the place when i came off the implant and had to go on the pill becuase i was having them every 2 weeks. x

I had the same a Dora V - stopped taking my pill in my early 40's and haven't had a period since, the Dr did a urine test which was sent off - the results came back that i was pre-menopause. It could be a simple hormone imbalnce, get you Dr to check you out.

also buy yourself a home pregancy kit and give that OK, as they are really reliable.

good luck

It can take a few months for the body to adjust to being off the pill. Because of this the cycle can be messed up for a short time.

I would go ahead and also let your dr know about this just to be on the safe side.

Call your doctor and tell him you still havent started after a length of time your doctor may prescribe you something like provera to have you start your period. Then you can talk about new pill options. I would be willing to say more in an instant message.

it could be irregular from coming off the other BC. But i advise you to take a pregnancy test right away, not having a period (especially after 2 months) is a sign of pregnancy.

i hope this helps. i was 40 when i stopped taking the pill and never had a period since then. for some reason i went into menopause. i am now 48 and i feel better than ever.

i have enjoyed being period free since, and i don't miss the cramps, bloating, mood swings, binge eating, pads, tampons etc. one bit.

if you feel good, just enjoy it. good luck.

Your body has probably shut down its natural production of estrogen, so you're lacking in enough female hormones to produce a period.
