G is indeed the prefix for "Giga", but obviously it's 10^9 to equal 1 billion.

Scientific prefix G (for giga) means 10^9, i.e. 1,000,000,000.
You get it also in GByte, measuring the quantity of data held by a large electronic storage device, like the hard disk in your computer.
