I would be careful what you give - most infant cough and cold preparations are for 3 months and over, because you can do more harm than good to a very young baby, their lungs are not necessarily developed enough to deal with the medicines (according to the pharmacist in Boots when my daughter was under the weather) ). Speak to your local pharmacist, they will give you good advice. Or call NHS Direct, I have always found them to be very helpful (0845 46 47).

my daughter had a chesty cough at 8 weeks I talked to my local pharmacist and in australia they don't make decongestants for children under 3 months (12 weeks). He did suggest using a vapouriser without the chemicals just water to try and loosen her chest. You're only a week away maybe try the vapouriser and if it is still chesty then get the medicine.

Do Not give your baby any medication with out your doctors approval PLEASE.

from the sound of how you put it she needs to see her pediatrition and not take a otc brand that may not help her one bit. She might have something more involved with her cough.

Her doctor can prescribe a safe medication and proper dose or tell you what to buy and how much to give. A wrong dose might end up bad for a little baby.

I took my girl to the doctor alot in her 1-4 months and i called ahead of time to see if she needed to be seen or not, usually the nurse had us in the next day. Went as far as spending 8 hours in the ER waiting to be seen cause she had been throwing up alot and caught the stomach virus at 4 months old.

So please dont risk her health by giving a medication that might not help her, have her seen by her doctor cause it might be more than a cough.

Edit: keep in mind babies can get RSV, so a cough should never be taken lightly with a infant.

I would say yes, because I gave my son something for cough at that age. However, there was just a study done about the cough medicine being bad for infants that age on the news. So I would say, based on the news... take her to the doctor. They will know what's best. Good luck! I wish I could be more help!

Contact your pediatrician or call the hospital and ask for a nurse. Ask either your pediatrician or a nurse what is safe to give a 11 week old and what the dosage amount would be. They can better advise you because you don't want to be giving anything that would be harmful or give the wrong dosage amount. Also your pediatrician might want to see the baby before recommending anything.

I was always told when my kids were that age, that cough meds usually make them feel worse. The best thing you can do to make her feel more comfortable is take her into the bathroom and turn the shower on really hot and let her breath in the mist or take her outside and let her breath in the misty night air.
If it don't seem to be better by morning I would call the dr and get her in asap. It's most likely nothing to be worried about but better safe than sorry.

Ask your pharmacist. If you are in the UK, you can register your child with a pharmacist for Direct Care which allows the pharmacist to prescribe things for minor ailments. You will also be eligible to register yourself for 12 months following the birth.

If the cough is severe, or if you are really worried, see your baby's GP.

Demazin (infant demazin) - i swear by it, its great. She will feel better after a couple of days. I would also recommend a vaporizer...it kills the germs in the air and just put it on when she is sleeping. Also you might want to give her baby panadol maybe every 6 hours and aswell as the Demazin, thats all they will tell you at the doc's anyway. She will have a good night sleep after that...and you will too.

Put some 'Carvol' in a bowl of water near to the cot, but not in the cot. My doctor advised this for my baby when she was a few weeks old and it worked really well. Also, put a book under the mattress where your baby's head is, to relieve any mucus on the chest.

They do make infant decongestants and cough medicines. They will give you the exact dosage on the bottle, just be very careful to give the proper amount. Call your doctor or local hospital if you are too nervous about giving meds!
