If ya gotta get technical then a Scythe - - - but the difference between a sickel & a scythe is the shape of the blade and that difference is miniscule, however a Scythe has historialy been the choice accessory for the Grim Reaper.
Here is WIkipedia doing its things.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sickle
"" sickle is a curved, hand-held agricultural tool typically used for harvesting grain crops before the advent of modern harvesting machinery. It consists of a curved blade with a short, one-hand handle attached. The inside of the curve is sharp, so that the user can swing the blade against the base of the crop, catching it in the curve and slicing it at the same time. It is sometimes referred to as a 'grasshook'. A similar tool is the scythe, and later its more developed tool for reaping, the cradle. The most noticeable difference between a sickle and the scythe is the shape of the blade - a Scythe blade is more linear whereas a sickle blade is more in the shape of a C with a point at the top.""
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scythe
""The scythe also plays an important traditional role, often appearing as weapons in the hands of mythical beings such as Father Time, the four horsemen of the Apocalypse and the Grim Reaper (Death). This stems mainly from the Christian cultural interpretation of death as a "harvest of souls." The image of a scythe also appears in the emblems for death-related or death-themed groups such as death metal bands. The war scythe has also been included in a myriad of video games and movies, and the farmer's scythe with perpendicular blade has been used as a form of visual imagery in Western literature.""

A sickle has a more curved blade, and it has a short handle, and a scythe has a straighter blade, and a longer handle
So I think that means that the grim reaper would carry a scythe, hang on a sec I'm gonna google that part of the question lol
Yep apparently the grim reaper carries a scythe! So I guess that means if you see someone in a long robe carrying a little curved thing in his hand, don't worry, it's probably just a shy farmer!!

Hello there,
the grim reaper carries a scythe. A scythe is used mainly in farming practices, for harvesting wheat or grains, two hands are used to operate it. Due to the extraordinary length of the blade, huge swathes can be cut with just one passing. The blade itself is kept as sharp as a razor blade; and, unlike in the movies, it is not swung like an axe from behind the shoulder. A Scythe is swung from side to side in front of the person using it, without a lot of force - due to the sharpness. Also can be used for mowing large expanses of grass.
A sickle, on the other hand, is a smallish, one-handed tool. Also a harvesting tool, equally sharp as a Scythe, mainly observed being used in asian cultures, for harvesting rice and barley. The blade is half-moon shaped (when new), unlike the Scythe blade which is only slightly curved.
With Regards,
Chris Meagher.

sickel is the hand tool while the scyth is the two-handed tool. Both are used to cut grains for harvesting. Ergo, the Grim Reaper carries a scyth in most depictions; symbolizing the 'cutting down' of life when it is time for it to be harvested.

The word is not ripper it's reaper. (look up "reap")
If you looked up those two words (boy, you are lazy) you'd learn that a scythe has a long handle and a sickle (boy, you are a bad speller), has a small handle.
The scythe is for cutting grain near the ground while standing, and the sickle is for cutting grain near the ground while bending over. Which do you imagine is easier to use?
Which kind of handle is Death carrying?

A sickle is a miniature scythe, of sorts. It is a tool for reaping that can be used one-handed.
A scythe is a large scale reaping tool that requires two hands to use because of the larger blade and the long post with handles.

It's the shape of the blade and how it's swung. A scythe has a straight blade and is pulled like a hoe (it can have a short handel. A sickel has a curved blade and is swung side to side like a slashing sword.

Simply tell your wife to take her scythe to the local blacksmith. You can't miss him, a big well muscled lad, usually works with his shirt off. Don't be too surprised if she's gone a while; its a craftsmans job and can't be rushed.
