People don't tend to like anyone else being better than them. Its all a part of human nature, we like to be the best.

I would think mainly because the attributes of a person in terms of what they can do physically or mentally never makes that person better (as a person) than the next man or woman. So many would see one that brags or assumes superiority as pretentious.

Depends whether your bragging without listening to others attributes. It´s so easy to care about only yourself and forget others have a life too.
