I mean the people in Palestine should slowly realize that after 50 years of fights with Israel, the violence wont end if they dont start talking with Israel. So why does Hamas get so much influence?

Actually, the Muslim terrorists in Gaza seem very effective at eliminating one another. In the last 24 hours Arabs have murdered over 50 other Arabs in Gaza.

Their newest tactic is to tie up a fellow Muslim and throw him off a skyscraper.

Perhaps they are doing the work for the West.

Hamas is popular because they feed the Islamic frenzy to kill Jews and Christians. This is the message of the Koran. In addition to the promise to further the demands of the Koran to kill unbelievers, the Hamas group offers charity to poor Palestinians.

I think for a while they looked pretty good against Fatah, the ruling party before - you know, Arafat's mob, who kind of made corruption into an art form. Hamas built schools and stuff and looked like they were going to bring Palestine into maybe the 20th century. But they're now screwed big time because the militant branch of Hamas wouldn't deal with Israel or renounce violence etc etc. Seems to me Israel is sitting back to enjoy the show while Fatah and Hamas go at each other. It's one sick part of the world, that's for sure....

Hamas is popular with Palestinians because it has always vowed to destroy Israel. Hamas is an extremist organisation that is responsible for numerous suicide bombings, kidnappings and murders - murders not only of Israelis but also of any Palestinians that don't support its' aims.

I'm sure there must be many moderate Palestinians who, like Israelis, want a dialogue and to work towards peace; but their voices can't be heard while a group like Hamas is in control.

These people side with whoever is winning and who can get them flour.

They could care less as they are too poor to know anything other than getting fed.

The International Community better come together to stop the Middle East from becoming a blazing fire of death for the world to deal with....including China and Russia.

Hamas ran on a platform that attacked decades of Fatah corruption when Arafat was in control.

It was also religious while Fatah was secular. Those two things caused it to get wide public support.

"Hamas" sounds sorta Spanish, and with that said, here is my take on why Hamas is so popular:

I think that Hamas is really a faction of Mexican Catholics that do not like Jews and they moved to the Middle East to fight against the Jews and reclaim the land of Israel for the Pope. A group like this is bound to be popular, be it + or - popularity. Muhammad Ali once said "Good popularity or bad popularity is still popularity."

So there you have it.

To the previous answerer: what do you want Israel to do???

Jeez, Israel can't win! If she gets involved, she's condemned, and now you're criticising her for NOT getting involved!

Why on earth should Israel try to help Hamas - Hamas refuses to renounce terrorism and won't even accept Israel's right to exist!
