Having experienced McD's in three countries (oh, lucky me), I think it has a lot to do with what foods we're used to, as the restaurants use the ingredients that are locally (local could span the whole country) available. Like, in the Netherlands, McD's chips had a yellow colour to them inside, and in Canada and the USA, they're white. The USA had the best tasting ice cream cones. But yes, when I ate McD's food, I did think that my country had the best tasting McD's food.

It tastes the same everywhere. That is part of the corporate identity. Call it "taste branding."

I'll give you an example. Since I was fixing my wife's car (and she was holding the umbrella) well into the late evening yesterday, we did not have time to cook dinner. There is a McDonalds a mile and a half away so we went through the drive through. I had the Big Mac meal, solely because I haven't had a Big Mac in over five years (I'm a heart patient). Tasted the same as it ever did, and the last one I had was in New Jersey (I live in Texas, 1500 miles away). One note... the "extra value" meals sure have gotten EXPENSIVE!

In addition, contrary to what some of our smart aleck posters say, McDonalds does not use horse or any other "exotic" animal.

EDIT: I've also eaten at a McDonalds in Britain and in Mexico. Both tasted the same.

I think the rest of the crew answered it well, I think its because of the ingredients used are very much localised. I'm from Malaysia and recently I was in China on a business trip. I could practically tell the difference of what i normally order.

I guess the oil they use to makes a difference

I think McDonald's only tastes good in other countries. (It must be I'm missing something that tastes American.) I try to avoid McDonald's in the U.S. because I eat it while traveling overseas.

Other countries use different types of meat. France uses Horse, Mexico uses whatever it can find in the alley.

I think the burgers from McDonald's are the best. I don't really care for the char-broiled taste of the burgers from Burger King.

What a great question. I think its just what your use to in terms of your childhood, your senses of smell that contribute to the distinict smell of McDonalds. I remember that when i was in Europoe the smells were completely different than in the states. That saying the quality of the food was much better in my opinion in Europoe than in the US
