I was petting my little guy today (he's 7wks old) and he kept nipping at my fingers and fingernails. He would play this cute little game with me where I would stroke one side of his face/cheek and he would purr and relax and then turn to the other side and do the same thing every once in a while. However, I just wanted to make sure the nipping wasn't because he was upset or did not like the petting. I had been squeezing lemons for lemonade beforehand so I'm HOPING he smelled it on my fingers and was just curious. He's just wayy more playful than his brother, lol.

Guinea pigs and humans are among the few species who do not make vitamin C internally, so we have to get it in our diet. Perhaps your pet smelled the lemon on your fingers and instinctively nibbled in order to get vitamin C. For optimal health, guinea pigs should have a diet that includes abundant foods containing vitamin C.

If a guinea pig want to bit e tehy will he was just nibbilng.
it could have been what you had on your fingers as one other said tehy need vitamin c and htat could be it also tehy need salt and should have a salt lick and sometimes will nibble or lick to gt teh salt from your hands.
make sure your guinea pig has a salt lick and is fed a good quality guinea pig food or you might want to get a vitamin c supplement made fo guinea pigs.
And although say they are nothing but rats tehy are great pets and even people smell. just keep the cage cleaned and they are nearly as bad as people with bofy sweat and odor.

I've had guinea pigs before and never had this issue. It's a definite possibility that he just liked the lemon smell. Try this site, they might help some more:

Guinea's are SO cute. I love that bed head hair. I'm sure that he was just being playful. Don't read too much into it. Give him a kiss for me & go get a glass of lemonade.

Yeah. That sounds like 'I LIKE that!' nipping. Tasting you to make sure you're edible, LOL! If he was kicking out with his hind legs I'd be concerned. Means you were tickling time :-)

How do you people even call a guinea pig a pet...they are like little rats that smell....seriously what is the attraction. Get a real pet like a dog, or cat...

could also be beacause guinea pigs like to lick the salt off your skin. If it was beacause he did not like it, he would have either walked away or bit you good.

if he is not trying to bite you as hard then its normal but if he squeels too then he doesn't like it
