Who do mean by 'one'? It's not very clear. If you can get ahold of Whitaker's Almanack, it lists all the peers by rank, and knights and baronets by surname. Dod's Parliamentary Companion only has details on peers who are members of parliament, but lists them by surname as well as title. I would not bother with the website of the National Archives.

Standard bibliography guidebooks usually point researchers to either Burke or Debrett's Peerage, both of which are probably available at a nearby university library.

A quick on-line search also reveals the following helpful web sites:

http://www.debrettancestry.com.uk/

Debrett's, incidentally, offers to search for your illustruous (or infamous) ancestors:

Standard Programme: 500 pounds ($850)
Limited Programme: 295 pounds ($570)

An excellent introduction to the peerage is found at

The National Archives in the United Kingdom should have this information as well: http://www.NationalArchives.com

Try Debrett's or Burke's Peerage;they both specialize in the aristocracy and gentry.

If the first son of a baron has received the title of baron after his father has died and then he dies, does the title go to his next younger brother if he has one?
