There are a few must go places in kerela - hill stations (munnar), beaches (Kovalam) , wild life resort ( thekkady) - and backwaters - (kumarakom /alleppey)
plan it like this-
day 1 - arrive cochin and leave for munnar the most beautiful hill station in south india covered with tea gardens. - 4 hrs drive from cochin. halt in tea county hotel of ktdc, there are many good hotels
day 2 - stay in munnar itself and visit the lakes, waterfalls etc., just enjoy the nature, relax and get your massages done. halt overnight
day 3 - leave for periyar / thekkady - which is a wild life game resort - 4 hrs drive from munnar - enjoy a boat ride on the periyar lake and go for jungle safari, club it with an elephant ride - stay in the jungles - there are only tourism hotels inside the forest -the hotel lake palace, hotel aranyanivas and the periyar house ( all 3 are of KTDC)
day 4 - leave for kumarakom - 4 hrs drive from thekkady - the place with houseboats. have a gala time on the backwaters here and stay in the houseboat which comes with a sitting room, bed room, bathroom and a kitchen, and above all this you have a personal chef who does your cooking. wow. stay overnight in the houseboat
day 5 - leave for cochin and fly off
( if you have time then check out the marari beach or the alleppey beach too for a day)
kovalam beach is little far, so plan it if you have time or else enjoy the alleppey beach itself
have a great time in kerela
