Stephen Malkmus had a bit part in some indie movie that Jeanine Gerafalo was in so via technicality I would say he is the best singer who has acted.
To be more serious though, (and this is really my opinion, not just because I know you'll like it) Tom Waits was brilliant in Dracula, great in Short Cuts, great in Mystery Men (despite the movie kind of being crappy). I haven't seen Down By Law yet but I keep hearing how great he was in that.
I do agree with the obvious choice of Will Smith. I thought his music was pretty fun in it's time (honestly I not too long ago picked up the a tape of the album with Parents Just Don't Understand on it at a thrift store a while back and it made me happy) and he is a very god actor.
Don't crucify me, but I do like Mandy Moore as an actress. Saved was great and I thought she did a really great job with the role. I haven't actually listened to any of her music aside from the horrible cover of the Beach Boys her and Michael Stipe did to end Saved. I also thought she was very good on Entourage and on Scrubs.
Seu George is probably like a Stephen Malkmus sort of a thing, but I loved the Bowie in French thing from the Life Aquatic.
Yeah, probably Tom Waits and Will Smith off the top of my head.
