Hi
HOw old are you?
The age span for girls to begin their period can be as young as 9 years old to 17 years old, but the majority of girls start their period, also called menstral cycle, between the ages of 12-15.
Some other body changes happen before your actual menstral cycle will begin. First you will notice that you are getting hair under your arms, on your legs and in your private area. You may get odour from your under arms and it will be necessary to take more showers and ware under arm deoderant. You can ask your mom to buy you some at the store. You may notice that you are sweating more, and may get acne (pimples caused by clogged pores and somewhat associated with hormal changes). Takeing a shower regularly will help with the acne as well as the body odour. YOu will grow taller and notice that you are much taller than the boys. You will feel unbalanced and may have more accidents because of it. You hips will widen and you may find that your clothes do not fit like they use to. You may become moody and don't understand why. Some people even cry for stupid reasons. Most of these body changes will occur before you have a period, but it can take a couple of years for your menstral cycle to be regular.
All of these things are happening because your body is starting to produce hormones that help the ovaries (where eggs come from in a woman) to mature. These are all necessary changes to the body to get it ready to make babies.
BUT that does not mean that it is the right time in your life to have children. Get involved in sports, volunteer, and finish your high school and go to college if you can. You will be a better mother when the time is right for you to be one.
TAke care

Honey, don't you have a mother or female relative you can talk to about this? You will start menstruating around the time pubic and arm pit hair form. Your boobs will be tender, you may notice that your favorite jeans do not zip up as easily as they did a few weeks ago. You will more than likely have pre menstrual cramping a few weeks before you start you will probably notice a thickish discharge in your underwear. Hope that helped.

You'll know because you will have your period about a month later from your last one.
An average woman's period cycle is about 28 days.
Also, you will get irritable, moody, and even more pimply the week before you menstruate.

Each woman is a little different in how she reacts to her monthly period. You should talk this over with your mother or an older sister or your school nurse.
