Guess who is the only approved candidate by Dr Dobson and the other evangelical leaders -

Not Giuliani (obviously), not McCain, not Romney, not Fred Thompson - it's Newt Gingrich.

Sorry folks, you haven't a "prayer".

I think Republican strategists had better start making Giuliani or McCain look like the second coming of Christ.
Edit: I hadn't seen you in a while Argle. I'm glad you're back !

The problem is for the republicans is not the evangelical base so much as it is the nationalistic base that will run from the party on economic issuses and immigration. The republicans will not win the election unless they can Ohio or a midwest state that means a Republican that can balance out the evangelical base. liberatarian bases, and the moderate base. The problem with democrats is more stark once the democrats get out of urbanized encalves its harder to get rural folk to vote democrat because rural areas tend to not like a lot goverment fiddling around, or class based warfare politics. 2008 gonna come down to Ohio for president.,

You are right argle, but the secular GOP think they can force them to vote with them by bashing the Liberals. Ron Paul is the only viable contestant for the secular GOP. It's really funny how they forget who really put them into the White House. George Bush wasn't the President the neo-cons thought he was. Karl Rove and Alberto Gonzales are the only two Texas men left standing with George Bush right now from the Bible belt that haven't been fired by Bush, or been indicted for crimes. I see no answer to a win within their party. No way Newt Gingrich has any prayer of being President.

Unfortunately for you and your blatantly ignorant point on this, the "evangelical base" couldn't care less about what some jerkoff like James Dobson has to say. They have an opinionated mind of their own. They won't base their vote on what he thinks. What do you think they are? Liberals?

The Republicans have essentially GUILTED Christians into voting for them. They have made Abortion and Gay Marriage THE issues, (thus hiding the fact that they are blowing it on all kinds of other moral issues) and selling churches on the fact that if you vote for a pro-choice candidate you are committing this big sin and all that, and that God won't be very happy with you, and people have bought it hook line and sinker, and that's why the Republicans won. BUt personally I don't like being manipulated like that.

I honestly don't like either party very well. I'm caught in the middle I'm very liberal on some issues and very conservative on others. So I'm like ripped in two - there isn't any party that really represents my views. If you combined the Green and Constitution party into one that might work.

who knows.

Liberals do you realize that without a real candidate you can't get the votes you need to win an election?

Hillary-Changes her mind as often as I change my under-ware

Barack-Stands for nothing

Edwards-The ambulance chasing lawyer that single handedly created the need for health care reform with his medical malpractice law suits

McCain knows. That's why he pulls his Diapers up high and goes on his sucky-sucky tours to the White House hoping to get Bush's rolodex of neo-con heathen Donors.......

Mmhmm. ok. If you say so.

I'm sure you needed that self reassurance so you can sleep better tonight.

P.S. I could say the same thing about the rumored possibility of Obama running with Colin Powell.
