Around here, we LOVE them. I'm in America. They are always so sweet and considerate... and I could listen to them talk all day long. It's a dream to visit down under someday.

All I know is what I've read....That Australia was the dumping ground for the English Crown...that they perpetrated genocide
on the indigenous people....and they don't like to look back on their history either...I'm sorry just got thru answering a question
for an idiot wanting to throw a whole race of people in the
hole because of a few....I do know that the country was started, with the English Crown dumping all their undesirables
in different parts of Australia and that just a bit over 100 yrs ago they got togather a formed what is now your country. I
don't know about now, but in the beginning other than the indigenous people of your country, they wanted to rid themselves of any and all peoples that were not caucasian.
Australia has done a wonderful job of having a make-over.
But, there like in America its hard to live down your past....
I think that they are some hard drinking, hard fighting, hard
living people that for the most part are good-hearted people.

Surfers or Outdoorsman/Hiker folk is the stereotype that comes to mind when I think Australians. I'm from California, USA. As far as Australia goes, I picture a desert continent. I dont know why, its just whenever they show videos of kangaroos and what not they are in a desert, dry environment.

I think of them as being real people.Honest and forthright. You are getting the real deal when you speak to them. Not pretentious at all and laid back as well.
I look at them as a what I wished all neighbors were like. I also look at them as being what I think alot of Americans would like to be. Maybe more carefree or something. Kind of reminds me of Canadians in some respects. I have been to Canada several times but only hope to get to Australia someday.
I guess if that's stereotyping, it's the right kind.

in response to the answer above... we celebrated our bicentenary in 1988. that makes us a bit over 200 yrs old as a nation. And Australia wasn't just a 'dumping ground', believe it or not people actually migrated here because of the gold rushes, the new land promised so cheaply and the lure of a new life. Try not to judge an entire nation on an antiquated view.

An Irish woman here thinks that Australians have a beautiful accent, great (normal) sense of humor, morally corrupt enough to match the rest of us immortals and honest enough to ask.

I think of the people as happy and laid back with lots of kangaroos bouncing all over the place in the background.
