To start with, let me inform you that all Lionfish contains poison. A Lionfish is any of several species of venomous marine fish in the genera Pterois, Parapterois, Brachypterois, Ebosia or Dendrochirus, of the family Scorpaenidae. The lionfish is also known as the Turkey Fish, Dragon Fish, and Scorpion Fish.
Lionfish are members of the scorpionfish family Scorpaenidae, and have venomous dorsal, pelvic and anal spines. Typically they have 12 to 13 dorsal spines, 2 pelvic spines and 3 anal spines. Each spine contains two grooves containing venom producing tissue. The ornate pectoral fins, though similar in appearance the dorsal fins, are not equipped with these glands.
The severity of an envenomation event may depend on the species and the size of the lionfish. The predominate effects of the lionfish venom are severe pain and swelling (edema) in the area around the wound. Other systematic responses such as nausea, dizziness, muscle weakness, shortness of breath, hypotension, and headache have been recorded either from the venom or as a reaction to level of pain.

:-)
I used the word poison because thats how the topic was started. I am sure that you got my point, whether we call it venom or poison.

Copperhead is right. the family is Venomous not poison.
There is a fish called a false stone fish that is non-venomous however they really don't look like lions This is the same with certain types of stone and scorpion fish. They are not quite the same as the lions but are beautiful fish none the less
Pterois lunulata Pteriors volitans Pterois sphex are all venomous

They are not poisonous...they are venomous...poison and venom are different. Poison is taken into the body by mouth. Venom is put into the blood stream.

Lionfish aren't so much poisonous as they are venomous. That may seem a bit technical, but when something is poisonous, you need to eat it to be affected. What the lionfish does is inject venom with its spines (so technically speaking, no lions are poisonous).
But they are venomous (all of them): http://www.wetwebmedia.com/lions&rels.htm
