Like they said, first you distribute the 2 to the x giving you 2x and then to the 2 which is 4. On the other side you do the same with the 3 giving you 3x-12. Once you do that you have to get x to once side so the easiest way is to take the 2x and minus it from itself giving you zero on the left and minus it from 3x (since they both have an x you can do that) and you have just 1x or just x. Now you have 4=x-12. Add the 12 to itself since it's subjecting so it cancels itself out and add it to the 4. That gives you 16=x.
