About the only aquarium snail you'll find outside the water for any length of time is the apple snail. And these usually only leave the water for a short distance to lay eggs, although that can take them a few hours. See the egg deposition link at this website: http://www.applesnail.net/

And outside the water, they still move like a garden snail.

Some water snails will move out above the water for periods of time. Some never come out of the water. I have nerite snails in my freshwater tanks and they generally tend to spend a few days sitting above the water every now and then--have no idea why. All the tanks however have covers/lids so the air above the water is very moist and warm. The ramshorns pretty much stay under water but will come to the waterline and make a popping/sucking sound when their water begins to get foul. The 3 golden mystery snails we had long ago crawled out of the tank through the heater/filter slot and died ('cause we were too busy to notice they were gone for a few days). We don't have any MTS but I think these stay well within the water all the time. Pond snails will often slide out of the water to lay egg masses above the water line (but sometimes they lay them under water too).

usually water snails do not go out side the tank, but they can stay outside the tank for a couple of hours. water snails reproduce really fast.
