It depends on what your dad likes or what his hobbies are. Generically speaking, cards are always nice if you write a personal note in it. If he has a job with a desk, desk accessories are fun, you can get him nice pens or supplies. If he likes sports or a particular team, get him something cheap from that team or sport. It's hard to make suggestions since I don't know anything about him. Clothing is kinda the go-to present, but it works.

A card, a homemade bike, socks, a cheap watch, something from the dollar store.

It depends on what is the urgent need of your father such as tie,sock,handkerchief,gillette,pomade etc.You can ask for help from your mother whether she knows it.

a long sleeve shirt with tie for a 1.99 at factory 2 U.(well in my area anyway)
