OMG I did that too! Its like your 'cooking' ice in the freezer and no sooner than ther top layer is formed you eat it right?? Listen gf, dont do it! It ruined my teeth for real! SOOOO sensitive now! Drink cold water instead, Good luck!

Funny you should say that. I am currently 38 weeks pregnant and I MUST have ice in all my cold drinks. If they are ice cold, I will not drink them. This has been going on since I first became pregnant. I did have an iron deficiency--it showed up on one of my tests--for which I now take iron supplements. However, I still must have ice cold drinks.

Be careful with chewing ice, though. It can ruin your teeth.

Get a doctor to check your iron levels, and other minerals. A lot of women who crave ice are low on iron, or potassium, or calsium, don't know why though. Could be that, like animals that eat dirt/chew rocks when mineral deficient, this is a modern equivelent. There are old wives tales that a pregnant woman should give in to her cravings as her body is telling her what it needs, but in this case it gets it wrong.

One of the other answers said it means your having a girl, but my sister craved ice and she has 2 boys.

LOL - I didn't have this, but I know three women in 'real life' and several on the internet who went through this. It's not a sign of anything, just a craving. Be thankful it's not a need for ice cream!

I craved ice like this during my 1st pregnancy! I even took a huge thing of it with me on the way to the hospital when I went in labor!! My doctor just said that I was probably not drinking enough water and not to worry!!

That is too funny, I thought I was the only one! I had a craving/obsession with ice with my first baby and I am now preg with my 3rd and I still have the obsession!

One dr toild me that sometimes you just have obsessions with different things and mine happened to be Ice.

I try and stick to crushed ice because crunching is really hard on your teeth!

My friend had this same issue also and after 5 years of it she went to the dentist and several of her teeth had crackes/fractures and had to have several fillings!

so I think its all ok just stick to the crushed ice!!!

I LOVED ICE when I was pregnant! I liked the crushed ice. I would pack it super tight in a glass and pour root beer over it and pack in more ice. I chewed the rootbeer flavored ice. as I ran out of ice I just packed more in. This was my only craving.

I know for a fact that people that are anemic and dont know it crave ice A LOT!! You should go to a doctor and get tested to see. Maybe because you are not eating well for both the baby and you you got anemia.

OH my GOSH, I done the same thing with my second pregnancy many years ago.
I craved ICE. I even chipped a few teeth in the back.
I bought bags of ice, to munch on.
If I ran out of ice, I would freak, my body craved it.

Pregnany women who chew ice have an iron deficiency.

Either that or you are hot...or you have an oral fixation.

I'd see my doctor at my next appointment, ask her about it and if she has your levels checked and you are fine, then accept that and keep lovin' on your ice!
