Why do women always have to be 'ladylike'? People think its strange when we fart, burp or look like a monster when we wake up in the morning. But its soooo normal for a man to do these things...people think we are supposed to be all pretty all the time and be gentle and soft... i asked a question...and man responded that woman are SUPPOSED to be smart and sexy. What are men SUPPOSED to be? Why can't we get rid of this high standard for women...we fart, have bad breath in the morning, we burp when we need to, and when we are hungry, we don't always sit back and eat like a bird carefully dabbing our lips with a napkin. My question is...why doesnt the world get rid of this vision of women...because its not true. We put on front to be the 'lady' you want us to be.

Anybody who is like what you describe is a slob, period. Just because the average person does it doesn't make it acceptable in my book. But I do agree that it is unfair how some people have that viewpoint.

That's just you. I have enough courtesy to not burp or fart around anyone, in the morning I don't look or smell like a monster, I hate the feeling of bad breath, mostly for myself since I sleep alone, but I pop a mint, and my hair is put up, so that its not all over the place in the morning. I look pretty much the same all day, even when first getting out of bed in the morning. I don't sleep on my face so there are no creases....
I hold a man to my standards, its all about proper manners and respect for the other person, not about being a lady or a gentleman. If a guy farted or belched in front of me, that'd be his last, I'm not having any of it. If he got up in the morning and paid no heed to his halitosis, that'd end there.

It's simply a continually maintained stereotype. It is not particularly harmful so there are no political groups talking about it. To some extent it is reinforced by women as well when they try to be attractive by conforming to what they think that men want and the circle continues. The stereotype continues, simply, because it is there and most people don't have a problem with it. My suggestion, if you were to attempt to dispel these myths is to find some way to publicly celebrate the un-ladylike nature of women.

Being a Lady or a gentlemen is internal. To me, You're a lady just by asking these questions. All it means these days is that you act mature just be mannered, modernly. A lady can do anything a gent can do.

Being one just means that you dont go out of your way to be ill mannered, i.e. belch or fart intenitonally. (like my oldest brother would do to other people on escalators).

As for the nasty stuff, a gent or lady should hold it till a restroom break, When i cant hold it. (I know I'm speaking frankly)
I usually excuse myself for just a minute and take care of it. Belching i do quietly as i walk away from my date for just a second. Gas the same way, if i feel a massive, I'll just say i need to use the restrooms.

As for dates, well, i carry mints and floss for after meals. (Not done in front of her, though).
I just act like i would like to be treated, and thats the geist of being a lady or gent.

go ahead and be a slob if you want to, those are the guys you will attract. Just like the guys who fart and burp in public and generally act like dirtbags will attract dirtbag females.

Why are men supposed to be gentlemen...?

That is just how it is.

If we went out for dinner together, would you expect me to not shave, fart at the table, and be rude to the waitress?
