in 1st equation, when x = 0, y = -1, and when y = 0, x = -1. locate -1 on x axis and y axis and draw line through them.

2nd equation has slope = 2 and y intercept = 8. locate 8 on y axis, then go right 1 and up 2 to (9,10) and plot another point, then draw line through them.

the point where the 2 lines intersect is the solution. looks like about (-3,2)

take two values of x & get y using first equation. You will get two points. For example
x=1 --> 1+y=-1---->y=-2
x=2---> 2+y=-1----> y=-3
The two pints on the line are (1,-2) & (2,-3)
Draw these points & line passing through these two points.

Similarly find two points for second equation & draw line.

The value of x & y at the point of intersection of these two lines is the answer.

on the top one you have to solve for "Y" so you get slope intercept form and the the number in front of the x is your slope. then the extra number at the end is where the line will pass through on the y intercept
