1. Every country of the Realm (UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, etc.) adopted Monarchy as its form of Government in its own right. That means, should the Monarchy be abolished in the UK (or any other country of the Realm), that wouldn't affect the other countries. 2. Should the British Monarchy be abolished, Queen Elizabeth (or whoever is Monarch of the time) would still remain Queen Regnant of the other countries. 3. The Royal Family may or may not choose to move into one of their other Realms; that would be upon their discretion. I strongly doubt the Royal Family would actually be forced into exile, so they could stay in the UK, albeit as private citizens (of the UK). They would still remain members of the Royal Family of Canada, Australia, etc., however would hold no official position in Britain.

Brits are very proud of their heritage and traditions. To abolish the monarchy would strip away the soul of the country. There is the additional fact that the monarch is the head of the Church of England too. There are very few countries today who can boast a 1000 year old monarchy, and many people who are envious of that prestige.

On the practical side, not only do the Royals bring in millions of pounds in tourism, but they also pay millions of pounds into the Treasury through the Royal Estates and through direct taxes. The Queen receives only a fraction of that amount for the Civil List.

It is not likely. England has a Constitutional Monarchy. The head of the Church of England is the Queen. Some talk about abolishing the Monarchy, but it really dies not have too much of a chance of doing so, In spite of everything, the Royals are respected by the people. Besides which, Royalty and its trappings brings in millions and millions of pounds each year from tourism.

1) The English abolished the monarchy in 1649, when they beheaded Charles I, and then brought it back in 1651 when Charles II assumed the throne. Since the monarchy no longer rules but reigns, it will probably never be abolished--just downsized considerably like its Scandinavian and Dutch counterparts.
2) If Scotland completes devolves from the United Kingdom, however, Scotland will probably become a republic.

The king cannot abolish the family, that's ultimately up to Parliament.

No, the royal family is their style of government. If you are really considering that, you by yourself will not accomplish. That means you are against the king, queen, prince, and princess. That is too much firepower. There is too much information that family is armed with you may not be aware of. Remember that family controls what goes in and out.

If I were British, the last thing I'd want is a republic.

Who in God's name would want to have a chimpanzee wind up as head of state like George Bush did in America?

Much safer to go on with having the dignity and pomp of a monarchy!

I highly doubt that this will happen. The royal family alone generates millions of dollars a year in tourist money. It also stands for Britians heritage and traditions which the Brits are extreemly proud of.
