As with any history, knowing about Alexander is one piece in the mosaic of understanding of how the world is at the moment. If Alexander had lost at Issus, and had never compiled his empire the world would almost certainly be different today.

Persia, or a successor state would have existed as a real rival to Rome. They may have conquered Greece and have prevented the rise of Rome. Or the existence of a strong oriental rival to Rome may have meant that Carthage won the Punic wars so the dominant empire of the western Mediterranean may have been based in Africa, not Italy. Or any of a number of other possibilities....

Alexander created one of the first far reaching empires the world has known. He established numerous of trade routes and cultures became shared. It it quite reflective of the American Empire and its ability to hegemonize other countries just like Alexander did.

Stick to something like that. About how far reaching his empire was and how he was able to affect other local sensibilities to Greek culture.
